Desktop Publishing

Desktop Publishing (DTP) is the production of printed matter by means of a desktop computer having a layout program that integrates text and graphics. It is the process through which the translated and localized content is given its final touches and shape, keeping the original document structure, layout, and format. It involves a number of procedures to organize the general appearance and format of an already translated and proofread output

Desktop publishers use programs like Adobe InDesign and QuarkXPress to create page layouts for documents they want to print. These desktop publishing programs can be used to create books, magazines, pamphlets, newspapers, flyers, and many other types of documents printed for commercial and marketing purposes. Desktop publishers also use programs like Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator to create printable images. Even most popular and simple word processing programs like Microsoft Word can be used for basic DTP purposes.

A complete desktop publishing process involves the combination of typesetting (choosing fonts and text layout), graphic design, page layout (how it all fits on the page), and printing the document. Our DTP cycle includes the below processes:

Typesetting
Character, paragraph and page formatting
Resizing images and graphics
Converting file formats
Fixing orientation issues
Fixing misalignment issues
Fixing graphic and format issues
Checking headers and footers for consistency
Creating indexes and table of contents (TOC)
Sorting indexes and TOCs alphabetically
Creating PostScript/PDF files
Final quality checkup

Arabic DTP Services

Arabic requires certain DTP requirements compared to most other languages, being a right-to-left (RTL) language. Just to name a few, it demands layout flipping, mirroring, RTL alignment, and direction adjustment. This process also includes the way of handling numbers, as they have to be displayed in Hindi format regardless of the applied computer regional settings. In addition, proper Arabic fonts should be used to guarantee a smooth content readability for the end user. Using the wrong font will produce a corrupted or deformed text, something we have to avoid for the sake of quality. Softrans provides professional DTP services in Arabic language to a variety of leading companies throughout the world.
